Detoxification Pathway:   How Toxins Affect Your Ability to Lose Weight

Toxins are everywhere in our world today. They’re in the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the things we touch, making them hard to avoid. And most people never even think about how these toxins affect their body.

Part of the challenge of losing weight after 40, is how well your body clears out these toxins.  Several organs play a big role here, with your liver as the star of the show (sexy, right?). We’ll talk about your liver in just a minute, but first I want to briefly touch on the other key players.

Additional Elimination Pathways

Skin: Your skin is the boundary that shields your inner world from the external environment. It also allows your body to release toxins through sweat. Sweating helps your body cool down, but it’s also a part of your body’s natural cleansing system. This is why body odor from sweating doesn’t smell to great. It’s the toxins.

Lungs: Your lungs are the air filter of your body. Each time you inhale, you take in toxins from the environment with the oxygen you need to survive. When you exhale, you release carbon dioxide, a waste product of metabolism. Ever taken a deep breath and felt refreshed? It's your lungs clearing out stale debris inside your body.

Urinary System: Your kidneys are the key player here. They filter your blood, pulling out waste and excess water to form urine. Staying hydrated is important here, because your kidneys need enough water to flush out the toxins and waste.

Bowels: Your intestines are the last stop on the detox train. They process the solid waste (yeah, poop) after your body takes what it needs from the food. A healthy gut means smoother waste removal, reducing toxin build-up. Fiber plays a crucial role by making sure everything moves along without a hitch.
